Shooter playable ads

A shooter playable needs an enemy in view on the first frame. Everything else (recoil, cover, the kill streak) is there to make 30 seconds feel like the real game.

What makes a shooter playable work

From the studio’s shooter playbook: the rules the agents load before they build, and what went wrong in earlier builds.

  1. 01

An enemy in the first frame

Close, bright and at least about 15% of the screen height, with a “drag to aim” hand. An early build opened on nobody and lost the first second.

  2. 02

    Weight in the gun

A 3D weapon on the camera with recoil, muzzle flash, tracers and a hitmarker. A flat picture of a gun was the first thing that looked cheap.

  3. 03

    Aim assist for thumbs

Auto-fire or a snap when the crosshair is near a target, so the first kill comes in seconds on a phone.

  4. 04

    Keep the pressure rising

Move to the next cover after each wave, or, as in Dead Rounds, stay in one room while the rounds get bigger and faster, with runners from round three.

A 30-second beat sheet

What the player sees, in order. A playable that hits these beats ends before attention runs out.

  1. 0–2 sAn enemy is already close; “drag to aim”
  2. 2–8 sFirst kill: hitmarker and a short slow-mo
  3. 8–20 sA wave peeks from cover; headshots and kill streaks
  4. 20–30 sThe finale: a boss, an airstrike or the last round
  5. EndVictory or a lose card, both with the store button
